Who we are

This website is operated by First Light Movers Limited ("First Light Movers", "we", "us"), an owner-operated moving company based in Hamilton, New Zealand, serving Hamilton, Waikato, Auckland and Tauranga. We collect and hold personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand).

What we collect

We collect personal information you give us directly, and some information collected automatically as you use this site:

• Quote requests: your name, phone number, email address, and details about your move (property size, type of move, addresses, whether you need packing).
• The pricing calculator: when you use our instant quote calculator, we collect the pickup and drop-off addresses, truck size, job length and packing preference you enter, and the price the calculator returns. This is sent to us automatically as soon as the calculator gives you a price — even if you don't submit anything further — so our team can follow up about a quote you've looked at. If you also tick the box to request a callback, we additionally collect the name and phone number you provide there.
• Careers applications: your name, contact details, and any information you submit if you apply for a role with us.
• Communications: if you call, text or email us directly, we keep a record of that correspondence.
• Website analytics: we use Google Analytics and Google Ads to understand how people use this site (e.g. which pages are visited, and which advertising or referral source brought you here) and to measure the effectiveness of our advertising. This uses cookies and similar technologies, and does not on its own identify you by name.

How we use your information

We use the personal information we collect to:

• Provide you with an accurate quote and respond to your enquiry;
• Contact you about a quote you've received, including where you've used the calculator but haven't otherwise been in touch;
• Arrange, carry out, and invoice for a move you've booked with us;
• Consider your application if you apply for a role with us;
• Understand demand across the areas we serve, and improve our pricing, marketing and service; and
• Meet our legal and accounting obligations (for example, retaining invoicing records for tax purposes).

We do not use your information to make any automated decision that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We do use a small number of service providers to run this website and our business, who may process your information on our behalf:

• Formspree — delivers quote form and calculator lead submissions to our email.
• Google Maps Platform — provides address lookup and driving-distance calculations used by the pricing calculator. Addresses you enter are sent to Google for this purpose.
• Google Analytics & Google Ads — website analytics and advertising measurement, as described above.
• Google Firebase — secure storage for our internal job records (such as booking dockets and invoices) once you've booked a move with us.
• Netlify — hosts this website.

These providers are only permitted to use your information to provide services to us, not for their own purposes. We may also disclose information where required by law.

How long we keep it

We keep quote and calculator enquiries for as long as reasonably useful for following up with you, and delete or de-identify enquiries that don't lead to a booking after a reasonable period. Records relating to a completed move (such as invoices and job dockets) are retained for as long as required for our accounting and tax obligations under New Zealand law.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to ask us what personal information we hold about you, to request a copy of it, and to ask us to correct it if it's wrong. To make a request, or if you have any question about how your information is handled, contact us using the details below. We'll respond within a reasonable time.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the personal information we hold from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access, including relying on the security measures of the reputable service providers listed above.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time as our website or services change. The date above shows when it was last updated.
